Ground Broken on New MD Anderson Sugar Land Facility

Apr 2, 2025 | Public | 0 comments

Anticipated to open in 2029, the five-story location will be MD Anderson’s largest Houston-area location to date.

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center broke ground on a new 470,000-square-foot facility in Sugar Land, bringing a range of cancer services and MD Anderson’s unparalleled patient experience closer to those living in Southwest Houston and the surrounding areas.

Anticipated to open in 2029, the five-story location will be MD Anderson’s largest Houston-area location to date. The facility will broaden services available at MD Anderson’s current Sugar Land location to include a new ambulatory surgery center, as well as expanded diagnostic imaging, radiation oncology and outpatient procedural services. The new location also will include space for multidisciplinary clinics, supporting comprehensive cancer care for adult patients with cancer diagnoses and low-to-medium acuity needs.

MD Anderson provides a variety of care options at six locations beyond the Texas Medical Center Campus. The new location will replace MD Anderson’s current leased space. As Sugar Land and the surrounding community is one of Texas’ fastest growing suburban areas, expected to increase in population by more than 30 percent by 2030, the facility also will offer capacity for future growth to meet increasing demand.

The Sugar Land facility will support MD Anderson’s sustainability goals through a design that will reduce energy consumption, optimize natural daylight and minimize glare and heat gain. Thoughtfully designed with access to nature and outdoor spaces, the building will prioritize the experience of both patients and employees, reinforcing MD Anderson’s commitment to creating a healing and supportive environment.
