Covering everything from maintenance and security to technology and construction, 2025 predictions abound in the facilities management industry. But what do facilities managers, themselves, hope to accomplish in the new year?
The start of every year represents an opportunity for new beginnings or ambitious goals. Given how demanding and all-encompassing facilities management can be, even the most experienced FM has room for improvement and professional growth.
To see what industry insiders plan to achieve in 2025, we asked a handful of former “Faces of Facilities” guests to share their New Year’s resolutions below. What’s yours?
George Alvarado, director of service delivery training at C&W Services:
“Getting my Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) certification is my first priority. I have a passion for talent development and would love to learn more so that I can continue to develop programs that enhance learning experiences and achieve organizational goals. Next, I’d like to become more proficient at utilizing AI to achieve business outcomes. AI is here to stay. And many are already tapping into it as a resource. But learning how to integrate it into our daily business objectives and utilize it effectively is key for me.
“Finally, this isn’t a new, personal goal, but I plan to continue spending quality time with family and friends, expressing gratitude for my co-workers and network, and taking some more trips and vacations with my wife. In other words, continue to keep people first.”
Sam Horton, regional facilities manager at JLL:
“In 2025, I’m excited to focus on my professional growth by continuing my education in facilities management. One of my key goals is to take IFMA’s Certified Facility Manager (CFM) credentialing exam. Achieving this certification will enhance my skills and demonstrate my dedication to excellence in our field.”
Lesley Groff, IFMA Fellow and director of facilities at Icahn Enterprises:
“A few years ago, I decided to create a professional stretch goal in addition to my annual personal resolution. It has been quite fulfilling to attempt these often-lofty annual goals, as well as to establish a plan for accomplishing them. Last year’s professional goal was to present solo at a conference—mission accomplished—and I also completed a podcast episode with a dear and trusted colleague.
“Please start building a network of believers who help and support your goals and possibly push you a little when needed. 2025’s goal is to write an article for a publication, something completely outside of my comfort zone. Putting yourself out there is hard. Take a chance, make a change, and do it for yourself. It is worth it!”
Jackie Riegel Kittek, facilities manager at global services firm CAI:
“This year, I resolve to focus on my professional growth by actively seeking out new learning opportunities. I aim to become a more impactful partner within the business by doubling down on strong collaboration and communication with other departments. This will involve regular cross-departmental meetings and feedback sessions to ensure that our facilities management strategies align with the overall goals of the company. By doing so, I hope to create a more cohesive and supportive environment that drives both operational excellence and employee satisfaction.”
Jose Rosas Roque, facilities management professional with nine years of experience:
“For my New Year’s resolution in 2025, I am setting my sights on achieving the IFMA CFM certification, which is an essential credential in the facilities management field. This certification will not only enhance my professional credibility but also equip me with the advanced knowledge and skills needed to excel in my career. To complement this goal, I plan to immerse myself in the world of facilities management literature, diving into books and resources that cover the latest trends, best practices, and innovations within the industry.
“Additionally, 2025 holds a significant turning point for me, as my current position will come to a close due to my company undergoing major transitions towards a fully remote model and the gradual phasing out of our physical office spaces. Once the office closure project is completed, I will officially transition out of my role, prompting me to embark on the exciting journey of job searching. While this period of change may feel uncertain, I am eager to embrace the new opportunities that lie ahead. I view 2025 as a year filled with potential for both personal growth and professional development, and I am enthusiastic about what the future holds as I pursue my aspirations.”
Bobby R. LaRon, IFMA global board of directors member and senior commercial property manager at CBRE:
“Having already earned the CFM and Facility Management Professional (FMP) credentials, I am excited to pursue the Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP) designation to complete the IFMA trifecta. This 2025 goal will not only deepen my knowledge of sustainable practices but also position me to lead with a sharper focus on sustainability in facilities operations—a vital aspect of creating resilient, future-ready spaces.”
